Ronaldinho Signing With Stoke City Would Be A Huge Mistake

Ronaldinho should consider going to the MLS or A-League instead of Stoke City.

This summer’s transfer window has been somewhat predictable, with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United splashing the cash, while Arsenal continues to promise big name signings but instead settling for teenagers “with bright futures.” However something that no one saw coming was the rumor that Stoke City is attempting to sign one of the greatest footballers of the modern era; Ronaldinho.

Yes, that same Ronaldinho that became somewhat of a “footballing god” during his time at Barcelona.

If this deal somehow goes through and the Brazilian legend signs with Stoke, it would be one of the worst decisions of his decorated career.

At the age of 34, Ronaldinho is far from his prime. Even though he’s been successful Atletico Mineiro since he moved back to Brazil in 2012, the former Ballon d’Or winner can’t handle the rigors of the English Premier League.

The league that’s considered to be the best in the world can be very cruel to aging players. The physicality and mental strain can easily rip apart the most consummate professional. And if he manages to survive those two obstacles, the wrath of the English media would finish off the already wounded player.

Also Stoke’s infamous style doesn’t really fit Ronaldinho’s idea of how the beautiful game should be played. The Potters are known for their extremely physical approach to the game. Some of the players on Stoke’s roster would have excelled if they had chosen to be nightclub bouncers.

The team’s offensive flow isn’t as fluid as Ronaldinho would prefer and with the amount of defending he’ll have to do, his body would surely break down before the end of the season.

And finally, in order to keep his admirable reputation intact, Ronaldinho can’t risk being a total disappointment in the most-watched league on the face of the planet.

If the Brazilian is looking for a new adventure, Major League Soccer or the A-League would gladly accept his services in a blink of an eye.
