Five Players That Can Replace Neymar at Barcelona

Neymar Jr

This summer transfer window witnessed a transfer record that will remain unbroken for many years, resulting in a lot of discussion about the transfer of Brazilian star Neymar from Barcelona to Paris-Saint Germain.

Last summer, Manchester United had broken Gareth Bale’s three-year-old world-record £83 million transfer from Tottenham to Real Madrid, with the signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus in a deal worth £89 million.

However, Neymar’s £198 million switch to the French giants brokered a new world-record that will stand the test of time.

As a result, Barcelona are now in search of a replacement for the former Santos player before the window closes. Although Neymar is not irreplaceable, Barcelona needs a player of his calibre or close to it.

In light of that, we look at five players that can fill the void created by the new “most expensive player in the world.

Angel Di Maria:

The Argentine had a successful spell in Spain, with Real Madrid winning the Champions League, among other trophies. Although he was not that successful at Manchester United after British record transfer to the club, he has rejuvenated his career at PSG.

There are reports that Barcelona could bring him back to the La Liga. Di Maria can play as a winger or attacking midfielder. He is pacey, electric, can score goals and can take on defenders.

Alexis Sanchez:

The Chilean international could be the perfect replacement for Neymar. However, going back to the Nou Camp this summer is out of the question as Arsene Wenger has insisted that the forward is not for sale, even though his contract expires next summer.

Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian has been on the radar of Barcelona in recent days and a deal reported to worth around £108 million is already on the cards for the attacker. This deal could materialize this summer since Coutinho is also interested in switching to the La Liga giants.

Dele Alli:

This may sound a bit shocking, but Barcelona are ready to swoop for the Tottenham star. The 21-year-old has attracted the interest of the Spanish club, and they are ready to tempt Tottenham with an outrageous offer.

The English midfielder made 50 appearances for his side, scoring 22 goals and provided 13 assists, helping them to a second-place finish in the
Premier League.

Ousmane Dembele:

The Borussia Dortmund player has got what it takes to replace Neymar at Barcelona but the German club are not likely to sell their 20-year-old star.
